Climbing Peru's Machu Picchu

Can you see the brilliant colors of the Peruvian costumes? The narrow trail leading to the mountain top? Can you feel the climate change as you trek to the top of Machu Picchu? Picture it. Can you smell the fresh air while you explore the ruins? Takes your mind off of work, doesn't it?

I have this client-turned-friend who brings a truly unique approach to his business. I met him through a sales letter... which he sat on for more than a year, then he finally called me to help him grow the business.

Joe is a unique plumber and business owner. His philosophy is to take good care of his employees and they will treat the customers properly. He starts each day with quiet meditation, concentrating on the needs of his customers, his employees, and also his marketing.

He is the only service contractor in an office building filled with doctors, lawyers, and accountants. His office is outfitted with the latest computer and network technology, and his database drives his business. Not your typical plumber, eh?

He's trying to take the long view, and focus on future business, as well as his own personal happiness.

My point?

Find your own "Machu Picchu" to climb, whether it's across the globe or across town. Get away from your environment, clear your head, and reflect on where your business is headed, what's most important to you. Evaluate the decisions you have made, and those you have not. Reflect on your customers, your employees, and those you love.

When you get to your "Machu Picchu" examine what you believe to be true. Our beliefs control our reality, and either open up or lock-out new opportunities. Know what you want and why. Know that you deserve what you want, and you're mind will help you get it.

I wouldn't spend a dime on marketing until I had those answers.

NOTE: My friend and I are considering an organized trip to Machu Picchu in 2002. Let me know if you are interested in joining us. Meanwhile, click here to see what I'm talking about: www.letsgoperu.com/Machu_Picchu_Peru.htm

Bonus Power Marketing Tip: Turning Up The "Marketing Dial" Too Fast?

As you launch new marketing programs for your company, and they begin to generate results, be careful as you "turn up the dial" on your marketing programs. Before you flip the switch and open the floodgates with new leads, you need to check in with your entire team. Everyone has to, as The Rock says, "know their role".

You CAN turn on the customer faucet with a good "lead gen program" but if you can't handle it, what's the use?

Marketing systems that work too well can cause internal problems which cascade and potentially adversely effect your ability to deliver. Take time to check in with your staff and make certain that everyone is on the same page. Your business is like a well-oiled machine (or it can be, anyway!). When all the parts are working you can increase the RPMs (for maximum profits).

All the best,

Bob Martel
