Issue #10 "A 5-year old could figure this out. Go fetch a 5-year old." Do you have the curious mind of a 5 year old? Why? Why? What if? How come? Why? Do you, indeed, have an open mind about your business, what you do, and the value of your contribution to your customers' lives? If so, read on... Remember, the best marketer always wins. * Preamble: My goal with this issue is to lead you to see how the intersection of the real and imaginary, using a mathematic metaphor, can show you how to find infinite possibilities in your business. (And how my friend, Marty Chenard, showed me how to horizontally and vertically defragment any business to find 'acres of diamonds'. I'm sure you agree that all the business you can handle is right under your nose. Right?) Two mathematicians that you ought to investigate: Benoit Mandelbrot never thought he'd have such a huge impact on your business. Neither did Michael Barnsley - but... they can both help you see things that you never thought possible. You just have to take a closer look. What I'm talking about is fractal thinking. It's 'out-of-the-box' thinking on super-steroids. Fractal: A set for which the Hausdorff Besicovich dimension strictly exceeds the topological dimension. In other words, fractals are shapes based on mathematical formulae. In simpler terms, fractals are shapes. Huh? What the heck does THIS have to do with seeing new opportunities in my business. No, I am not trying to take you on a metaphysical journey to the 4th dimension. (I'll do that in the December issue). Rather, I am taking you a metaphorical journey, if you'll join me. Although it may appear as chaos at times, there is a beautiful pattern that is mathematically (and magically) represented in your business, your life, etc... All you need to do is discover it. Sometimes you need to confront these patterns and change your thinking, your beliefs, your behavior. Let's get started: This goes pretty deep. In order to truly be a Power Marketer, in my humble opinion, you have to master your self-talk, become a strong influencer and persuader (like it or not) of the self-talk of others, and you have to develop the techniques that will allow you to see the opportunities that are right in front of you. Agree? Good. (If you do, indeed, agree... the concepts in the last paragraph will lead you to where you are trying to go). You also have to be a fractal thinker. This means that you are able to see and take advantage of patterns in your business: patterns in your employees, customers, vendors, and the market place. You can leverage trends and behavior to take your business to the next level. (Step back... then zoom in... and step back again. What do you see in your business?) Here's a very real example. A client of mine has been in business 30+ years, with a long-standing "belief system" about the company's niche, strengths, type of customers, customer satisfaction, and "market dynamics". Unfortunately, most of these beliefs have been limiting the company's opportunities for increased sales and profits. Whatever you believe to be true... is true, agree? One of their beliefs has been that marketing (was) an unnecessary expense. Fortunately that changed in time to save the company. If you believe that your customers only want you to make for them what you made for them in the past, you will eventually lose those customers. If you believe that every competitor is out to get you and would not value a collaborative alliance, then you'll miss the boat. If you don't ask your best customers 'what other problems you can solve' for them, or do not demonstrate additional value, you'll limit your opportunities. If you are scared of the future, and hide in the corner, opportunity will not find you. So, I ask you to examine what you believe to be true. Examine the patterns of behavior that may be opening the door to opportunity... or closing them. Encourage and discourage accordingly. Now - I ask you to think like the 5 year old within you - and explore for a few minutes. The following information will take you on that metaphorical journey I mentioned earlier. Soon you will be ready to ZOOM!!!!!! ahead of your competition by what you discover. Check out these links - no hallucinogenic drugs required. But do get ready to treat your cranium to a relaxing, exploratory journey! (I recommend you put on a set of headphones, with your favorite relaxing music....) You'll start to feel just like you do when you stare into the campfire or gaze out to sea. Enjoy. Go here now: www.paru.cas.cz/~hubicka/XaoS/gallery.html While you are at the above site.
Some additional optional sites for you to share with others. www.gnu.org/XaoS (This another place to find the Xaos fractal generator.) www.fractalus.com (Another place to play). Load Fractal Vizion here - and play: www.eclectasy.com/twg/default.html I've used mathematics as a metaphor for helping you see opportunities. I hope you passed calculus because you'll soon learn how to use the Choice Evaluation Array to influence your customers' decision making process. Your feedback always welcome. I hope you value Power Marketing Tips! Happy Thanksgiving,

It makes sound waves, but it is the ear that converts them to sound. Agree? Sound happens in your head, not in the forest.
